Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Friends of Greenhead Park.

We are an independent voluntary group that works with Kirklees council and others to ensure that our park is safe, attractive and well used. This website tells you more about the Friends and how to join us.

Information for visitors

Greenhead Park has a wide range of facilities and is home to many different events and activities throughout the year.  It also has a fascinating history to explore.

If you’re visiting with children, check out our page on Children’s activities where you can download our Explore, Discover & Play activity sheet.

You can enjoy a variety of food and drink from the two park cafes – full details are on our Park Information page. You are also welcome to picnic in the park but please note that fires and BBQs are not allowed in the park at any time. A Public Space Protection Order is in force and anyone lighting a fire or BBQ can be fined up to £150.

Two recycling bins for plastic bottles and cans can be found in the children’s play areas, and there are regular litter bins throughout the park. Please use these to keep our park clean and green – or take your rubbish home if you can.

Dogs are welcome in the park but owners are expected keep their pets under control and clear up after them – waste can be disposed of in the litter bins. Owners may be asked to put dogs on a lead if they are causing a nuisance to other park users. The play areas, paddling pool, sports courts and skate park are dog exclusion zones – and dogs should also be kept out of the lake as they disturb the widlife. Dogs are allowed in the top cafe by the tennis courts and the conservatory section of The Park cafe.

Drop in and see us

Every Wednesday we hold a drop-in session in the park. You’ll find us in the Pavilion by the bowling greens from 1pm to 2pm. This bright modern building with its eco-friendly green roof provides a much-needed base for the Friends, Greenhead Park Bowling Club and Huddersfield Croquet Club.

Anyone is welcome to call in for a cup of tea and a chat and we’ll do our best to answer any queries on park management, activities, park history and so on. We can also tell you more about what we do and how to get involved.
