Celebrate our park heritage

This year the Friends of Greenhead Park are putting on an event as part of the national Heritage Open Days programme.  Heritage Open Days are a celebration of our history and heritage with free visits and activities at historic sites up and down the country.

The Italian Gardens and Boer War Memorial in the early 1900s

We will be offering two guided walks on Saturday 8 September, at 10.30am and 2pm, visiting the main features of the park and hearing about its fascinating history.
The circular walks, lasting 60 to 90 minutes, will start from the Trinity Street gates (near the Park Lodge) and finish at the conservatory, where there will be a Friends stall – and the chance to enjoy a snack or meal at The Park cafe too!  We’ll have old photographs and maps of the park for visitors to look at, and copies of Secured for the Town, our history of the Park, for sale (£5).  A new, free, leaflet published by the Friends to accompany the heritage information boards in the park will also be available.
You can find more details about our Greenhead Park Heritage Walks on the Heritage Open Days website.
