Try bowling in Greenhead Park

Thanks to a lot of hard work by the gardening staff, the bowling greens are in great shape for the start of the new season. The greens were first opened to the public in June 1927, and Greenhead Park Bowling Club, formed in October of the same year, is still going strong – so there’s a great tradition of bowling in the park.
At the moment the Club has teams competing in the Huddersfield & District Veterans League on Mondays (Six Man) & Tuesdays (10 Man), and also runs a number of Individual & Pairs competitions, usually on Thursdays. So during the season (early April to the end of September) you’ll find members on the greens between 10.30am and 4.30pm most Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays. New bowlers are always welcome and the Club is keen to widen membership to include Ladies and Juniors.

Having a go at a taster session in June 2013

Even if you don’t fancy playing competitively, Crown Green Bowls is a fun social activity for all the family and can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. If you’d like to have a go, come along to a free taster session organised by the Bowling Club and Friends of Greenhead Park on Wednesdays May 14, June 11, July 9 & August 13 from 6.30pm to 8pm. The sessions are open to all, whether you’re a complete beginner or have played before – and young people from 12 years up are particularly welcome.
We also have bowls for loan on Wednesday afternoons from 1.30pm to 2.30pm – just call in at the pavilion by the bowling greens – or at other times by arrangement with the Friends. And anyone is free to bowl on the greens when they’re not in use for matches – at least one green is available most days.
