On Saturday 30 November representatives from Friends of Greenhead Park joined a huge crowd gathered in the Rose Garden for the unveiling of a new memorial commemorating the many thousands of Sikhs who fought and died in World Wars I and II.

The 6ft-high bronze statue, sculpted in India by Jaydeep Apte, depicts a Sikh soldier and is mounted on a Yorkshire stone plinth. The memorial, unveiled by the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, was put in place by the Sikh Soldier Organisation and funded by public donations.
