August 2023

As well as the regular weekly activities, there’s a variety of other events and attractions which vary from month to month. Outdoor events are weather permitting. Please note that some events need to be booked in advance.

Friday 4 August

10am Join up for free weekly Nordic walking sessions around the park starting at the Greenhead Park Pavilion by the bowling greens. Registration for new walkers is on the first Friday of every month at 10am,  with training provided for people new to Nordic walking. Once you’ve registered you can join the group any Friday morning at 10am – walking poles are available to borrow free of charge.

Wednesday 9 August

12noon – 4pm Explore the power of music, illustration and storytelling outdoors with an exciting free storytrail organised by Kirklees Libraries. The trail is inspired by the stunningly illustrated book Once Upon a Tune from award-winning artist James Mayhew. Search for the illustrations round the park, experience the engaging stories that inspired famous tunes including Flight of the Bumblebee and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and create your own musical artwork. Recommended for families with children up to age 8. Drop in between 12noon and 4pm at the Greenhead Park bandstand to pick up a trail sheet.

Friday 25 August

10am – 12 noon  Informal Ukulele session in the Greenhead Park community room (in the cafe building opposite the tennis courts).  Visitors are welcome to come in and listen – or join in if you have a ukulele!

Monday 28 August

12noon -3pm If you’d like to have a go at Crown Green bowling, why not come down to the bowling greens for a free taster session organised by Huddersfield Bowls Development. Qualified coaches will be on hand to show you the ropes and people of all ages are welcome. All the equipment you need is provided, but please wear flat shoes. To pre-book a place at your preferred time, email huddbowls@gmail.com – or you can just turn up on the day!
