There are plenty of regular weekly activities in the park, either free or at a small charge, so why not come down and join in! Contact us if you have ideas for other activities you’d like to see.

Mondays

10am Meet other parents for a pram-friendly one hour stroll around the park organised by Parent Sanctuary. The free weekly walks are suitable for parents with children from birth to pre-school.  You’ll find full details on the Parent Sanctuary website.

12noon – 1pm Buggymovers session for new mums who want to get back in shape – all you need is a baby in a buggy and comfortable trainers or walking shoes. Cost: £6.50 per mum and buggy (dads and grandparents welcome too!). Meet at the cafe opposite the tennis courts.  Pre-booking is essential – please don’t just turn up! Contact Jackie on 07950 870950 for more details or to book. Tuesdays

1pm Join Huddersfield Petanque Club for a petanque (boules) session on the terrain by the Marsh gates. Newcomers and visitors welcome to come along and find out more about the game. The Club will put on taster days for groups by arrangement too. Club membership costs £22 a year. You can find more details at Huddersfield Petanque.

6pm (from April to the end of September) Huddersfield Croquet Club session on the lower bowling green.   The Club plays social croquet, enters teams in two Yorkshire Croquet Federation leagues and holds Club tournaments. 7pm (starting April 16) Acre Street Runners session in the park. Meet at the top cafe by the tennis courts. Free – non members need to fill in a disclaimer form.

Wednesdays

Planting bulbs 1 resized

10.30am  Friends of Greenhead Park weekly gardening session  – weather permitting.  Join this friendly group who help park staff with weeding, planting and other seasonal tasks. Meet at the Pavilion by the bowling greens. Tools provided but bring your own gloves and come suitably dressed for gardening. 

12.30pm for 12.45pm start Wednesday Wellness Walk organised by Kirklees Wellness Service. Meet outside the top cafe by the tennis courts for a gentle walk round the park led by Wellness Coaches and Walk Leaders who can support and guide you as you become more active. The free walk starts and finishes at the same point, it is generally flat and will last approx. 30 minutes. Don’t worry if you are not used to walking or haven’t been active for a while, you can go at your own pace and take as many breaks as you need. All you need is a pair of flat comfortable shoes or trainers, a jacket for if it rains and a water bottle. 1pm – 2pm Greenhead Wellbeing Walk organised by S2R. Meet at the entrance of Huddersfield Leisure Centre (HD1 4BP) for a gentle walk to and around Greenhead Park returning to the Leisure Centre. It’s free but booking is essential – call 07933 358800 or email contact@s2r.

1pm – 2pm  Friends of Greenhead Park Drop-in session in the Greenhead Park pavilion by the bowling greens.

Thursdays

10am – 12noon (from May to the end of September)  Pickleball session on the tennis courts (Courts 1, 2 & 3). This fast growing sport combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis and is played using solid paddles to hit a plastic ball over a net.  It’s suitable for all ages, but is particularly popular with the over 50s. You can get a free introduction to the game from an experienced player on Court 1 – weather permitting – and all the equipment you need will be provided. All welcome – no need to book.

11am – 12noon Join Holy Trinity and Greenhead Walking for Health group for a walk in the park, starting at the Trinity Street gates near the conservatory.  The free walks are led by a trained walk leader and are a great way to meet new people and enjoy a chat while doing something that can benefit your health.  All adults welcome – no need to book. 11am – 11.45am  Walk your way to better health with Shaping Care in Kirklees. Meet at the Greenhead Park community room opposite the tennis courts for a walk, refreshments and socialising. Free – no pre-booking necessary.

10am Free Nordic walking session around the park. Meet at the Greenhead Park Pavilion by the bowling greens. Registration for new walkers is on the first Friday of every month at 10am,  with training provided for people new to Nordic walking. Once you’ve registered you can join the group any Friday morning at 10am – walking poles are available to borrow free of charge. 

11.30am – 12.10pm NEW from 26 January 2024 – weekly Pyjama Drama imaginative play classes for 2 to 4 year olds (term time only) in the Greenhead Park community room. Cost: £10 for a three week trial, then £6 a session if you pay weekly, or £5 if you pay half termly. Spaces are limited so booking is essential. Saturdays

9am Free weekly 5km timed run, open to everyone who has registered with the organisers, Parkrun. You can find out more and register at parkrun. For local information visit the Huddersfield parkrun Facebook page.

1.30pm – 4pm The Greenhead Park miniature railway aims to open on Saturday afternoons from March to October  – weather and volunteers permitting. Fares are £2 a ride, and £5 for a family (up to 5 people). If you would like to help to keep the trains running, please contact Huddersfield Society of Model Engineers.

Parkrun restart cropped

Sundays

9am Huddersfield Junior Parkrun, a 2k weekly run especially for 4-14 year olds. Like the amazingly popular Saturday Parkrun, it’s free but you need to register with parkrun. You only need to register once, so juniors who already run on Saturdays don’t need to register again.
