As well as the regular weekly activities, there’s a variety of other events and attractions which vary from month to month. Outdoor events are weather permitting. Please note that some events need to be booked in advance.

Thursday 1 June

12noon – 4pm Families are warmly invited to a spring story trail organised by Kirklees Libraries. The free trail is inspired by the heart-warming picture book One Love, adapted from one of Bob Marley’s most beloved songs. The event aims to bring the joyful spirit and unforgettable lyrics of his music to life for a new generation. Drop in at the Greenhead Park bandstand between 12noon and 4pm to collect a trail sheet and explore the park to discover the gorgeous illustrations. Recommended for families with children up to age 8.

1pm – 7.30pm Spring Bank Holiday fun fair on the main event field. Entry by timed ticket – £12 for 3 hour session (1pm – 4pm & 4.30pm – 7.30pm), accompanying non-rider £2.50.

Friday 2 June

10am Join up for free weekly Nordic walking sessions around the park starting at the Greenhead Park Pavilion by the bowling greens. Registration for new walkers is on the first Friday of every month at 10am,  with training provided for people new to Nordic walking. Once you’ve registered you can join the group any Friday morning at 10am – walking poles are available to borrow free of charge.

Saturday 3 June

8.15am & 9.45am Everyone is welcome to join a free thirty minute yoga session by the bandstand, brought to you by Peaceful Remedies. Suitable for beginners – no need to book. Please bring a mat if you have one.

11am – 8pm Spring Bank Holiday fun fair on the main event field. Entry by timed ticket – £12 per session (11am – 2pm, 2pm – 5pm & 5pm – 8pm) , accompanying non-rider £2.50.

Sunday 4 June

1pm – 7pm Spring Bank Holiday fun fair on the main event field. Entry by timed ticket – £12 per session (1pm – 4pm & 4pm – 7pm), accompanying non-rider £2.50.

Sunday 18 June

12noon -3pm If you’d like to have a go at Crown Green bowling, why not come down to the bowling greens for a free taster session organised by Huddersfield Bowls Development. Qualified coaches will be on hand to show you the ropes and the sessions are open to people of all ages. All the equipment you need will be provided, but please wear flat shoes. Thursday 22 June

6pm – 8pm Get outdoors, enjoy nature, meet others, find out more about plants. Join Growing Works for an early evening plant identification and wellbeing walk around Greenhead Park. Call Rachel on 07845 415289 or email info@growingworks.org.uk for more information or to book a place.

Friday 23 June

11am – 2pm Kirklees Learning Disability Week Picnicin the Park – with entertainment, stalls and information. Bring along a picnic and your own seating. For more information, email sarah.roberts@cloverleaf-advocacy.co.uk.

11am – 3pm Need help with your dog’s training or behaviour, but concerned about the cost? The Dogs Trust are offering subsidised Dog School classes and one-to-one behaviour sessions to help owners understand their dogs, manage their behaviour and live happy lives together. Find out more by visiting the Dogs Trust information stall by the conservatory cafe. They will also be happy to chat with owners about any behaviour concerns and offer general dog advice.

Sunday 25 June

12noon Join Huddersfield Race for Life and help raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK. You can walk, jog or run the 5k course which is suitable for all abilities. The start line will be in the main field, next to the miniature railway and cafe.  Registration is £15.99 (£11 for children aged 6 to 15). Family discounts are available and under 6s can join in free with no need to register them.

Friday 30 June

10am – 12 noon  Informal Ukulele session in the Greenhead Park community room (in the cafe building opposite the tennis courts).  Visitors are welcome to come in and listen – or join in if you have a ukulele!

1pm – 3pm Enjoy a gentle Summer Tree Identification walk round the park with S2R and the Friends of Greenhead Park on Friday 30 June and learn how to recognise a tree species by looking at its leaves. There’s no charge but booking is essential – call 07933 358800 or email contact@s2r.org.uk.
