As well as the regular weekly activities, there’s a variety of other events and attractions which vary from month to month. Outdoor events are weather permitting. Please note that some events need to be booked in advance.

Friday 5 May

10am Join up for free weekly Nordic walking sessions around the park starting at the Greenhead Park Pavilion by the bowling greens. Registration for new walkers is on the first Friday of every month at 10am,  with training provided for people new to Nordic walking. Once you’ve registered you can join the group any Friday morning at 10am – walking poles are available to borrow free of charge.

Saturday 6 May

8.15am & 9.45am Everyone is welcome to join a free thirty minute yoga session by the bandstand, brought to you by Peaceful Remedies. Suitable for beginners – no need to book. Please bring a mat if you have one.

Monday 8 May

12noon -3pm If you’d like to have a go at Crown Green bowling, why not come down to the bowling greens for a free taster session organised by Huddersfield Bowls Development. Qualified coaches will be on hand to show you the ropes and the sessions are open to people of all ages. All the equipment you need will be provided, but please wear flat shoes. To pre-book a place at your preferred time, email huddbowls@gmail.com – or you can just turn up on the day!

Tuesday 9 May

4.45pm & 7pm Circus Starr offers a real treat for families with special needs, bringing all the fun of the circus to children and families that may have found this difficult in the past. Free tickets will be sent to children and their families through a network of hospices, schools, hospitals, regional branches of national charities and support groups.  If you would like to apply for tickets to the shows in Greenhead Park as part of a school, organisation or charity, contact Jo on 01260 288690 or email community @circus-starr.org.uk. Individual families can also apply for tickets direct to Circus Starr.

Saturday 13 May

10am – 2pm Huddersfield Croquet Club are celebrating National Croquet Week by offering short taster sessions on the lower bowling green. In return for a small charity donation, adults and accompanied children can have a go at croquet with all equipment provided – just make sure to wear flat shoes.

Sunday 14 May

2pm – 4pm Tower Brass community band are first up on the Greenhead Park bandstand this year. Everyone is welcome to this free concert which is part of a programme of Bands in the Park celebrating Kirklees Year of Music 2023. Limited seating will be available – or you can bring your own folding chair or picnic rug.

Wednesday 17 May

11.30am – 12.30pm Hear what happened when the new King came to town – in 1912! Greenhead Park was a key stop on the route when Huddersfield was visited for the first time by a reigning monarch. When George V and Queen Mary came to town in July 1912, the crowds flocked in to catch a glimpse of the Royal couple. Local historian David Griffiths will tell us more about the 1912 Royal Visit to the West Riding at an illustrated talk in the Greenhead Park community room (in the cafe building near the tennis courts. Free – all welcome. Organised by the Friends of Greenhead Park with Hudersfield Local Studies Library.

Saturday 20 May

11am – 3pm  Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice Colour Run is back in Greenhead Park this year. Take on a 3km or 5k walk, jog or run while being showered in clouds of coloured powder – and help raise funds for a great cause! Advance tickets are £20 for adults, £12 for children (3-16 years) and £56 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children). Under 3s go free. Tickets on the day are £25 adult, £15 child, £70 family.

Friday 26 May

10am – 12 noon  Informal Ukulele session in the Greenhead Park community room (in the cafe building opposite the tennis courts).  Visitors are welcome to come in and listen – or join in if you have a ukulele!

Saturday 27 May

11am – 3.30pm Jowett Car Club are celebrating their centenary this year with a UK National Rally in Greenhead Park. Vehicles will be parked on the main drive and lower event field and everyone is welcome to come and have a look. Don’t miss this chance to see a fantastic display of classic and vintage Jowett vehicles!

11am – 8pm Spring Bank Holiday fun fair on the main event field. £12 per session (11am – 2pm, 2pm – 5pm & 5pm – 8pm) , accompanying non-rider £2.50.

Sunday 28 May

1pm – 7pm Spring Bank Holiday fun fair on the main event field. Entry by timed ticket – £12 per session (1pm – 4pm & 4pm – 7pm), accompanying non-rider £2.50.

Monday 29 May to Wednesday 31 May

1pm – 7.30pm Spring Bank Holiday fun fair on the main event field. Entry by timed ticket – £12 for 3 hour session (1pm – 4pm & 4.30pm – 7.30pm), accompanying non-rider £2.50.
